URBANA -- A Mahomet family is using their tragedy to help others. Amy Craig and her family donated more than $25,000 to the Carle Cancer Center.

Her late husband, Chris Craig, was diagnosed with kidney cancer November 1, 2011. He passed away in April, but Craig wanted to thank the hospital for everything it's done. She says the money will go towards helping families who are in the same boat.

"I've been discussing with Carle about that," said Craig. "I would really like it to affect the patients, family and friends that are with the patients as they undergo their treatments."

The money was raised through a 5K walk and auction. Craig says it couldn't have happened without the community stepping up.
