DANVILLE -- One of the city's busiest roads is getting a new look and you can help decide its outcome. It's happening on Vermilion Street between Harrison and Fairfield.

City leaders want to widen lanes to help traffic flow. There are 6 alternatives for you to choose from.

Carol Nichols has been volunteering at the Fischer Theater 12 years. It's been on Vermilion Street since 1884.

"Our goal is to ultimately restore the theater and make it a performing arts center again. Anytime we're making improvements that will make the downtown more attractive, we think it helps us as well," Nichols said.

That's the city's goal. Public works wants to turn the four lane road into one of six options creating wider lanes.

"It looks like a good program," Nichols said.

The program lets you choose from options with side parking to bike lanes to a three lane road.

"They've given good thought to not impacting the retailers," Nichols said.

Nichols is backing the project, but some business owners have no idea it's happening. Public works officials are working to make sure everyone's voice is heard. They've created an online form giving everyone the choice to pick their favorite.

"It gives people who may not want to sit through a meeting an option to look at what's going on," Nichols said.
