SPRINGFIELD -- County officials could lose a stipend they're used to getting annually. Some lawmakers want to cut off the funds.

Elected officials like coroners and county clerks can get the bonus as long as they do their jobs well. It costs the state more than $3 million each year. Some say the bonuses are worthwhile because they help attract the best people to the jobs. Others say the stipends are a waste of tax dollars.
