RANTOUL -- He spent many years in the military and studied at UI, now this Hometown Hero is teaching his own lesson of giving back to the community. These days it's common to see Doug Rokke sitting behind this sewing machine.

He makes blankets from his home for school fundraisers. He does this while dealing with some severe physical disabilities. But this is just one place Rokke says he makes a difference.

After serving our country, he says helping war veterans get medical care is his main focus. The blankets he's making this time are for students to sell at St. Malachy's Fall Fest. Rokke is also a substitute teacher at several schools.
