CHAMPAIGN COUNTY -- Realtors are reporting solid numbers in the area's housing market. Experts said that's a good sign the economy is on the rise.

Realtors said the two hot spots in the county are Mahomet and Urbana. The latest numbers show home sales are up about 20% from this time last year in Champaign County. Experts said people are more likely to buy a home once they feel like they're on solid financial ground.

Homeowners said finding the perfect home can be tricky. The Carey's just settled in Savoy but they were able to find their dream home and they couldn't be happier.

"Just as we were about to give up and start to look for something to rent, we discovered this house so we were very pleased with that," said David Carey.

"You're going to see this continue for a long time. I think that our market, our community is nice and stable," said Todd Salen, who is the president of the Champaign County Association of Realtors.

Many new homes are also being built and sold, adding more opportunities for growth around Champaign County. Experts said affordable mortgage rates also contribute to this growing trend. Realtors said home sales typically peak around the summer months.
