URBANA -- Some grade-schoolers got an early lesson on the electoral process. Thursday, they had a school-wide election at Thomas Paine Elementary.

About 300-students voted on school colors and a mascot. The Champaign County Clerk let them borrow a working ballot counter.

Members of a 4th grade class served as poll workers. The little poll workers also helped the younger students, since some don't know how to read yet.

The winner? Tiger Cubs. Now the school's colors will be orange and black.
