MAHOMET -- It was a night of free pizza giveaways, but only if you could pass a safety check. Luckily the fire department came with your delivery. It is part of Fire Prevention Week at the Cornbelt Fire Protection District.

Wednesday night, firefighters teamed up with Domino's to help deliver pizza. During their stops, they would check homeowner's fire alarms. If you passed, you got a free pie.

That was the case for Cassie Morgan Look and her two daughters. Their order-in night turned into a bit of a surprise. That's because firefighters showed up to help deliver their pizza.

"We're gonna test smoke detectors and if they aren't working we're gonna replace the batteries and if that doesn't take care of it, we'll replace the detector," said Lieutenant Chuck Thompson.

He works at the Cornbelt Fire Protection District.

"If their fire alarms are working then they'll get a free large pizza from us," said Seth Emerson, Domino's general manager.

It was a tasty reminder to families that early detection is key in an emergency.

"You have two minutes after a fire starts to get out of the house safely," said Thompson.

Part of that detection is making sure your smoke alarm is up to par.

"I hope to see everyone with a working smoke detector and Domino's has to give out a bunch of free pizza coupons," said Thompson.

Luckily Morgan Look and her family passed the test.

"It's awesome. We got a three topping so it's wonderful."

Domino's and the firefighters made it out to four deliveries. Everyone passed the test and got a free large pizza. So did the firefighters.
