Forgot to register to vote?

SPRINGFIELD -- The registration period for voting is over, but there is still a way for those who forgot. Grace period voting gives people a second chance to vote for those who missed the deadline.

All you have to do is bring your ID and a piece of mail with your name and address to your county election office. You can register and vote all at once.

That way, you can still participate in the election even if you could not make it in to register. The State Board of Elections says grace period voting is a good way to get more people to vote, but not a lot of people use it.

Less than half a percent of all ballots cast are during the grace period. Grace period voting ends November 3.
