LED inventor honored

URBANA -- The UI community is celebrating one of its most recognized scientists. 50-years ago, Nick Holonyak invented the LED. Tuesday, the university celebrated his accomplishments.

It's an invention you can find almost anywhere. Hundreds of people came to hear Holonyak speak. He had some words of advice for future inventors.

The university also celebrated Holonyak with refreshments including a cake topped with LED candles.
