URBANA -- A Midwest college hopes a booming industry can help it recruit new students. The Kalamazoo Valley Community College, located in Michigan, is promoting its Wind Turbine Technician Academy.

A school representative stopped by the Holiday Inn Monday to drum up interest. He says he picked Central Illinois because people here are used to seeing wind farms.

He hopes those with mechanical or electrical experience will give the industry a try. It only takes six months to become a certified technician at the academy.

"For every ten turbines there's a need for one technician. So as you see wind farms going up with 100, 200, 300 wind turbines, you can imagine how many new techs are needed," said James Dehaven, Vice President for Economic and Business Development at the college.

The academy runs like a full time job. It's eight hours a day, five days a week for 26 weeks. If you'd like find out more about it, click here!
