JACKSONVILLE -- Deer hunting season kicks off and hunters are encouraged to donate some of what they kill. The initiative is part of DNR's Illinois Sportsmen Against Hunger program.

It'll offer $50 to help process meat with participating processors around the state including Jones Meat and Locker. Owner, Terry Jones, says he likes to help because he knows it's for a good cause.

He says a lot of hunters have already started donating, with those who like like to kill for sport willing to give away the meat. Only properly field-dressed deer will be processed. Road kill deer will not be accepted since time of death can't be determined.
