CHAMPAIGN -- A soldier turns his life around and ends up being honored by the mayor a week before deployment. Many times in life it's not about where you end up, but what you did to get there.

A young soldier who turned his life around to serve is a perfect example. WCIA-3's Amanda Porterfield has this week's Hometown Hero.

If you want to submit someone in Central Illinois to be a Hometown Hero, send us a letter, write on Amanda's Facebook page or fill out the form under the "Community Tab" on this website.
