Buildings town down

CHAMPAIGN -- You may notice some open space. Vacant buildings, like the old Best Buy on Anthony Drive were town down. City officials want to use the land for car dealerships.

They approved a tax rebate in July for Ford City and other dealers on Neil Street to move there. They would then redevelop that space for restaurants and hotels. A business agreement will be brought before council sometime this month.

How exactly does one go about towning down a building? It drives me nuts how often things are misspelled in this site. Makes our town look like we're all a bunch of uneducated fools to outsiders. It's even town down in the article and in the title.
