CHAMPAIGN -- New numbers show America is on the right track for job creation. The economy created 181,000 jobs in July and added another 142,000 in August.

City leaders say more needs to be done to bring jobs to the area. The latest national numbers show improvement, but Laura Weis, who is the president of the Champaign County Chamber of Commerce, said the state needs to do more. That's because everything the state does has a trickle-down effect to each individual city, especially in the Champaign-Urbana area, where the state is a major employer.

Other issues Weis raised include being competitive with Indiana and matching up employers with well-trained workers. Around the U.S., the economy needs to create nearly 100,000 jobs every month to keep up with the number of people entering the job market for the first time.

Also in this latest report, the nation's unemployment rate dropped to 7.8% which is the lowest it's been since February 2009.
