SAVOY -- New numbers show the nation's unemployment rate is dropping. It fell to 7.8% in September. That's the first time it has dipped below 8% since February 2009.

Employment experts hope that means the pace of job creation is picking up. Businesses can see the economic changes every day.

Scott Lutz and his family have owned Old Orchard Lanes for about 20 years. He has seen strikes, spares and gutter balls through many economic times.

"I run a free kids' bowl through the summertime and it's absolutely packed so that helps because people don't have to spend the money," said Lutz. "Just a couple dollars. It helps them and it helps us."

An economy on an uptick has also helped.

"It's fairly cheap entertainment compared to a lot of other things," said Kevin Davis, who is general manager. "We're not real expensive so I think that's why people come to bowl."

Other businesses have closed up shop because of a bad economy. But this one just keeps rolling along.
