Want to cycle across Illinois?

SPRINGFIELD -- It could soon be easier to ride your bike from Champaign to Macomb or Chicago to Carbondale. IDOT is looking at a plan to connect major cities using bike paths.

Illinois would be the first state with a bicycle highway. We already have hundreds of miles where you can ride your bike. Right now, though, there is no safe way if you want to go on a really, really long ride.

The proposal would make new trails and add bike lanes to existing roads. It's all part of the governor's push to go green and get our state healthier. He's hoping the "bike-way" might get people peddling to work instead of driving.

Companies have until October 9, to submit design ideas. IDOT says the whole project is being paid for by federal dollars.
