CHAMPAIGN -- An award is helping kids stay active and healthy. The Midwest Affiliate of the American Heart Association recently gave out more than $137,000 to 27-groups promoting heart health.

One of those programs is CommUnity Matters. It was created by the city, Unit 4 Schools and the Park District. The goal is is to provide kids between the ages of 5 - 19 opportunities to stay active.

Now with this grant money, a Fitness Challenge component is being added to the Operation Hope program. It will encourage high school students to start a lifelong fitness routine through healthy cooking classes and exercise classes.
