URBANA -- Hundreds are getting ready for flu season. Carle helped people do just that with its drive-thru flu clinic.

It looks like a long line, but nurses say they were able to get families in-and-out in just 15-minutes. Carle is seeing more people stopping by for their flu shots this year. They think it's because of the cooler weather.

Experts say the virus is transmitted more easily in the cold. Kids under five-years old and people over 40-are more likely to get the flu. It's why Carle encourages them to get vaccinated.

Some of the myths around the illness need to be addressed. Some say the flu shot doesn't work after awhile. That's true. The vaccine is most effective for six months. But, it can still do its job up to a year after you get the shot.

Another myth; getting the shot will give me the flu. Carle says that's false. Most of the time, people get the shot too late after their system has already been exposed to the virus.

A final myth; pregnant women can't get the flu. That's false. The hospital says the shot will protect you and you should definitely get it if you're expecting.

URBANA -- Carle kicked off a community flu clinic Wednesday. Organizers expected thousands to roll up their sleeves for the 38,000 doses available.

The starting event at Vineyard Christian Fellowship Church offered patients a chance to "drive through" for shots. No appointments are necessary.

Carle patients may choose direct billing and must provide their clinic number and insurance card. Medicare patients must bring their Medicare cards. Others should be prepared to pay at the time of service.

The Centers for Disease Control recommend the vaccination for those six-months and older.
