Thieves causing thousands in damage

CHAMPAIGN -- Criminals are once again stealing scrap metal to make money, but the money they're making is pennies compared to the cost of damage they're creating. Someone broke into an old lumber yard on North Country Fair Drive in mid-September.

Investigators say they cut a hole in a fence, then cut a hole in a wall. They knew what they wanted and took all they could.

Salvage yards and recyclers are on alert. Police hope someone may have seen someone hauling all the stuff away.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers. You can remain anonymous and may earn a cash reward.
