DANVILLE -- People are gearing up for a brand-new celebration this weekend. It's the first time they've ever done something like this. Organizers say this weekend's Taste of Downtown Danville will be a feast for your eyes, ears and stomach.

The main event is Saturday's barbecue contest. Doug Carter is one of 17 vying for the top title. He owns a barbecue restaurant in Catlin called High on the Hog. This will be his first time entering a cooking competition. His family helped him build the one-of-a-kind smoker he'll be using.

Many teams already started prepping food for Saturday's judging and will be cooking through Friday night. People will be able to cast a vote for their favorite food.

Other events include live music, wine tasting and a craft sale. Organizers say they're not sure how many people will come but they're hoping there will enough support so they can make this an annual event.
