DECATUR -- Some middle school students are getting a lesson in healthy eating and they are growing the food themselves. Kids at Garfield Montessori Magnet School spent the day digging up healthy treats.

They planted the garden in the spring. The school says the hands-on learning teaches them science, math and teamwork. Plus, it gets the kids excited about trying new veggies.

After everything is harvested the kids get to use the food to make healthy snacks. This is the first annual harvest day but they plan to do it again next year.
