Security on High Alert

Updated: February 21, 2007
There were crowds outside as early as three o'clock to catch a glimpse of the last dance for chief Illiniwek. University police say that's one reason they expect a record number of people inside and outside for tonight's game. Some say they wouldn't be surprised to see crowds similar to games leading up to the final four a few years ago. Police have a lot to look out for tonight.. with it being Jim Sheppard's last night, senior night and the chief's last dance. Officers say they're just hoping it doesn't get out of hand. "We know there will be a lot of emotions," says University Police Lt. Roy Acree. "We're ready for anything that might happen." Just to be sure, Acree stepped up his staff. Police say they'll have 20 plus additional officers inside and outside for crowd control. And as if they don't have enough on their plates, they say tonight will be a big night for ticket scalpers. That means even more patrols outside to make sure scalpers are where they need to be.
