FARMER CITY -- You'll hear a lot of school spirit throughout these hallways. WCIA-3's Megan Brilley talked to student to find out why Blue Ridge High is such a Cool School in Our Town.

"We have a mix of good kids, and we have good teachers."

"We have great teachers, great coaches and they really do help a lot."

Notice a theme? Students here say their teachers are what make their school cool.

"They help you with whatever you need."

Kids say it goes beyond books.

"I like Mr. Sinika because he uses more of the hands-on aspect."

"I love Mr. Watson as my teacher."

"My favorite would have to be Miss Thacker just because she's one a good teacher, she cares about the kids and is just really nice."

Education has been going strong here since 1884, when the school had its first graduation.

"It's the small town atmosphere where everybody gets the chance to get to know everybody. They've been in class together since kindergarten and Pre-K. It's kind of a good family atmosphere."

A small-town school, getting big-time recognition.

"In the last five years we've gotten recognition from U.S. News & World Report for being one of the top 100 schools in the country."

But, you don't need those numbers to see how cool this school is.

"What do you hope students walk away with?"

"Just knowing they can succeed at anything if they put their mind to it."

More exciting news. The Blue Ridge Marching Band is competing in the national "Outback Bowl." It's in Florida this December. The band competed in it four years ago and placed second.
