Police Ready to Hand Over Investigation into Crash involving UI Players

Updated: February 20, 2007
The investigation of two University of Illinois basketball players involved in a car crash will be in the hands of the Champaign County state's attorney later this week. Jamar Smith crashed his car into a tree last Monday. He and teammate Brian Carlwell suffered concussions in the accident. U of I police have ticketed Smith with improper lane usage and we are still waiting to confirm if alcohol was involved. Smith and Coach Bruce Weber made a mutual decision that he will not return to the team this season. Carlwell was back on the bench with the team during Sunday's game against Northwestern.
