Chief Supporters Plan "Black Out"

Updated: February 17, 2007
chiefCHAMPAIGN - Supporters of Chief Illiniwek are asking basketball fans to help them honor the chief.

The group Students for Chief Illiniwek plans to hold a "black out" Sunday night as the chief takes the floor at half time during the men's basketball game.

They're asking everyone to wear chief gear and when he takes the floor change into black shirts.

This all comes a day after the University of Illinois Board of Trustees decided to put an end to the chief in order to comply with a NCAA ruling.

The students say this is their way of mourning the loss of the chief.

The group will hold more events this week including a rally on the quad and a candlelight vigil at the president's mansion.
