Five Mile House has history

CHARLESTON -- At 170-years old, it's one of the longest standing building in Coles County. But, this historic landmark is still quite the mystery in Our Town Charleston.
Currently, the Five Mile House holds educational open houses for a look into the mid-1800's. Back then, it was a landmark which told travelers from the south, they had five miles yet to go to reach the Coles County Courthouse.
It's located at the corner of Illinois Route-130 and Westfield Road. A member of the home's foundation board says there used to be a third road leading to the Five Mile House which became farmland over time. It's also believed Abraham Lincoln visited here.
