Robert's Blog- Scary video

Updated: August 14, 2012
watch video

This video was sent to me by Shari, she shot it while on vacation in Jamaica.  She had no idea what a close call she had until she watched her vacation videos.  I did a little editing (pardon the watermark, trial version of the program), so it runs at normal speed, then in VERY slow-motion, then at normal speed again.  In the right lower foreground you will see what appear to be "streamers", electrical discharges moving UP toward the thunderstorm cloud.  If the streamer connects with a stepped leader (discharge DOWN from the thunderstorm) then a pathway is created that allows a lightning strike to occur.

Due to the limitations of the video source, I was not able to slow it down in any greater detail, but this is still impressive, and frightening.  I am glad Shari is OK, and she has a GREAT story to tell!
