Road Crews Helping Clear the way for School To Re-Open

School Closing Temperatures are dipping back into the single digits, after a foot of snow fell across Central Illinois on Tuesday. Although the snow has stopped, the concern now is it refreezing over, and turning into black ice. Road crews in Mahomet's Township have been working 36 hours, plowing the roads so they could re-open. Township Highway Supervisor Chris Doenitz says they've seen drifts that are as high as six or seven feet. He says for that reason, they cause a road hazard for students, "when you end up like we did this time, have trouble getting through, we don't want kids out there school buses, in fact we don't want anyone out there."
Schools often times talk with Highway Supervisors like Doenitz when considering whether to cancel classes. Education leaders say road crews have a better idea if roads are safe for kids and buses. At this point, roads around the Mahomet Township have mostly been cleared. Doenitz says,  "we're in good shape, we have a mile in a half that's still impassable."
They'll start clearing that road tomorrow morning.
Some students say they were hoping for another snow day, others say, they're glad to go back to class.
