One Homer family is without a home tonight after a fire, made worse by Tuesdays blizzard conditions. It happened on South Homer Lake Drive in Homer.
Fire Crews say the road was impassable making it almost impossible to reach the house. So, while fire crews struggled to get there, the McKees say they felt helpless.
"Theres nothing you can do," said homeowner, Jim Mckee, "you can hear the fire department coming but they cant come up the lane."
The house was built by Jim Mckee just four years ago. Jims wife, Susan said, "its very hard for us to see that happen, because it was like our dream for us and now its gone."
They are now staying with family, wondering what theyll do next. All that they own is gone, but they find peace in the fact that they are all still together. "We dont have anything left except for our family and our friends," said Susan McKee, "we have wonderful friends and family, thank goodness, but thats it everything else is gone completely."
A relief fund has been set up for those who wish to help the McKees.
Donations can be made at the Homer Bank at 134 S. Main st. in Homer.
