Brian Carlwell Upgraded to Fair Condition

Updated: February 14, 2007
Weather was a factor in the car crash that involved two U of I basketball players. Brian Carlwell has been upgraded to fair condition suffering a severe concussion. U of I police say he was riding with teammate Jamar Smith when the car crossed the median and slammed into a tree on First Street in Champaign. Smith was treated for a concussion and released from the hospital. People at the Sterling Fields Apartment Complex in Savoy say they saw Smiths car...parked with its hazard lights on..and one person inside. "We saw 6-7 people trying to pull someone out..and were like.oh theres someone in there..so then we looked back again and yeah they definitely pulled someone out and put them on the stretcher." U of I police are still investigating the crash...and were still waiting on official confirmation if alcohol was a factor.
