Stocking up Before the Storm

All this talk of snow has some shoppers stocking up and fueling up before the bad weather hits. Managers at Collins Gas Station on Neil Street say business was booming all day Monday with out-of-towners and early shoppers preparing for this snow storm. With gas prices spiking all over town, many hit the pumps a little early to save some cash. But it's not just gas; it's groceries too. With today being a holiday stores were already busier than usual, but managers at Meijer say they've been especially packed because of the weather warnings. Shoppers like John Crawford came armed with lists. "Fish, potatoes and kellog's cereal," Crawford says as he reads through his list. "All the essentials." From milk, water and eggs, to snow shoes and snowboards... these shoppers are certainly prepared. "We live out in the country so the roads may not be clear, so we may go a couple days not being able to get into town," says Champaign shopper Becky Bedigo. "So we're getting prepared today." Prepared might be an understatement from the looks of Bedigo's cart. It's worth "a couple hundred, easy," she says. But with five kids... four gallons of milk, two cartons of water, four boxes of cereal and three snow boards is nothing out-of-the-ordinary. "We don't want to get stuck without." Like many others, Bedigo is worried at what this storm might bring, but for her five-year-old daughter, it's a different story. "I'm going to go sledding, build snow mans and snow angels and make a snow-fort," says McKenzie Bedigo.
