DANVILLE -- Families in one neighborhood aren't scared to get their hands dirty. Their project started small, but it's grown into something much bigger.

We're taking you to see the discovery gardens in Our Town Danville. The garden is where the old Douglas Elementary School used to be.

Neighbors got tired of seeing an empty lot. They came together to donate time and money, turning it into a community garden.

Volunteer, Mary Ann Petigrew, says it gets bigger every year.

"I hope they take away that we're trying to make the area more attractive and nothing is worse than seeing an empty lot."

They plant flowers, herbs and vegetables. Neighbors say it has brought the community together.
