Police Being Sued

Updated: February 8, 2007
badgeIllinois police departments face a lawsuit from the National Associaition of Criminal Defense Lawyers over a controversial study of witness id's and police line ups. The group says police refuse to provide proof of a report that concludes line ups are better than showing one person at a time. The attorneys say previous research shows "one-at-a-time" line ups reduce false eyewitness identifications. 54 innocent people have spent a combined 601 years behind bars in Illinois because of bad eyewitness reports.
