SHELBYVILLE -- The 4th of July is less than a week away. It may be a great time for you and your family to hit the water.

In Our Town Shelbyville, there's plenty of it to go around for boaters and swimmers. But, as WCIA-3's Erica Quednau learned, you have to remember safety first.

It seems like a dream job; getting to spend your "everyday" here, on the water. For Jeremy Logan, it's a reality.

"Just being outdoors, it's something different everyday."

He's a park ranger with the Army Corps of Engineers.

"We want everybody to come out and have a good time and just ensure safety's number one basically."

That's because several thousand boaters spend their weekends on Lake Shelbyville. They get to enjoy more than 11,000 acres of water.

"They like to come out here, cook, swim. We have a lot of boaters who come and like to stay the night, they have a cabin on their boat. Of course, fishing, water-skiing, tubing, wake boarding; all kinds of events."

No worries if you don't have a boat. Hiking, horseback riding and golfing are also offered. But, if boating is what brings you back to the lake time and again, Ranger Logan has your back.

"We want to make sure everybody's safe; everybody gets home at night."
