Our Town Shelbyville: Painted Figures
Updated: June 25, 2012
There are more than 15 painted figures scattered all around downtown. Artists Dan Modzelewski and Carol Kessler started the project in 2004.
They wanted to do something special, something no other town had. Each painted figure is a little taste of Shelbyville. They're modeled after everyday people and families in town.
"They are just average people. I did a paperboy, he's just a kid who delivered the newspaper and he was thrilled," said Modzelewski.
The figures look like they're painted on the walls, but they're actually on sheets of metal. The artists paint it and attach it to the buildings.
