NORMAN, Okla. (UI Release) - Senior Luke Guthrie was named a PING second-team All-American, announced Wednesday by the Golf Coaches Association of America. Guthrie becomes the second Illini to be recognized on the list, joining first-team selection Thomas Pieters, who was honored with the laurel following his individual national title at the NCAA Championships. Guthrie, who was a first-team All-American in 2011, is the fourth Illini inschool history to earn multiple All-America honors. The other three Illini with multiple All-American awards include Steve Stricker (1987-89), James Lepp (2002-03) and Scott Langley (2009-11).

Guthrie, the 2012 Big Ten Player of the Year, sealed his place as one of the top golfers in school and conference history by winning his second straight Big Ten individual title and leading the Illini to a fourth consecutive conference championship. He earned first-team All-Big Ten honors for the third time in his career and was honored with the Les Bolstad Award for low season stroke average in the Big Ten. The Quincy, Ill., native also reset Illinois' single-season stroke average record (71.19) and broke the program's career stroke average record (72.08).

Guthrie helped the Illini reach the NCAA Championships for the fourth time in his career after picking up All-Region honors for the fourth year in a row. He tied for 45th at nationals and finished in the top 20 at all 11 othertournaments this season, which included three of his seven career victories. He posted a career-low tournament of 203 (-10) in his win at the D.A. WeibringInvitational.

Following his career at Illinois, Guthrie turned professional and tied for 19th at the FedEx St. Jude Classic. He also earned a sponsor exemption to play in next month's John Deere Classic (July 12-15).
