Shooting suspect arrested

URBANA -- A shooting has prompted at least one business owner to say, "It's time to take back our neighborhood."
This owner is fed up. She says it's time for people to stop running away from crime and to run to it. WCIA-3's Megan Brilley learned she thinks we're part of the problem.
Denni Hubert stood on the porch of her business and watched police line her street with crime tape. That's when she realized she had no choice but to speak up.
Denni Hubert has owned this antique shop on Main Street for the past 20-years. She's seen her fair share of crime scenes on the block.
"It doesn't matter if it's my kid your kid, we all need to be involved with these kids."
Hubert wishes people in the community would take some time out of their day to help kids in the community stay on the straight and narrow.
"I think everybody in town needs to be involved in the raising of our youth and if we don't get involved with the raising of our youth they're just going to fall through the cracks."
She's kept her ears open at city council meetings and wasn't happy with their plans.
"We notice there are a lot of people watering plants for the city of Urbana and they're wanting to build bicycle paths and roundabouts. They need to spend the money on police enforcement."
Diane Marlin is on the Urbana City Council.
"We have to do both."
She wants Hubert and the rest of the area to know they have to focus on both infrastructure and crime and that they're doing their best.
"Community development, legal, safety have all been working with neighborhood residents, working with communities to reduce drug activity and focusing on criminal activity out there."

URBANA -- A shooting suspect turns himself in. Authorities say Gabe Chaney turned himself in last night. He is currently being held at the Champaign County Jail. They are still searching for a second suspect, Ardis Fenn.

URBANA -- A shooting sent one man to the hospital. Police say he was treated and released.
Police say the 28-year-old was shot in the leg in the 600-block of East Main Street. Investigators don't know why the shooting happened, but they're looking for two shooters.
AJ Boyuillion lives down the street from the crime scene.
"I was walking outside and my neighbor said you need to be careful out there."
She can't believe something like this happened so close to home.
"It makes me feel like I can't trust anybody because you never know when something like this could happen, or somebody could turn on you and then you end up being in the same kind of situation."
It's a fear felt by many on Main Street. Mark Sandrock was visiting a friend when he heard the shots.
"It's broad daylight so that's kind of scary that that kind of thing would happen."
An incident that's making some in this neighborhood question when the violence will stop.
"I think people should definitely watch out and take care of themselves and if this was a different forum I would spout my own liberal views on how we should all be able to carry guns."
"I think it's horrible, I feel like a lot of it's youth on youth, it makes me feel sad that there's not more outlets for them and that they're turning on each other and that the economy and everything is forcing that to happen."

URBANA -- A neighborhood is on alert after a shooting. Police are investigating the scene in the 600-block of East Main. It happened about 4:45 pm.
Some parts of the street are blocked off while police canvas the neighborhood looking for witnesses who may have seen a suspect running. No word on injuries at this time.
