TAYLORVILLE -- A man named William Stone started a museum just across the square.  It shows the history of the mines and also an ugly past of the Coal Mine Wars.

He worked in the industry for 30 years.  Now he has three rooms dedicated to pictures, clothes, and technology representing the underground history.

"There was killings a lot of killings here in Taylorville and around the area had a lot of troubles," said Stone.

The United Mine Workers of America were upset with the president of the Union, John Lewis.  It had to do with wages and worker rights.   Some miners broke away and created the Progressive Miners of America.

"I was just one year old and I didn't know nothing about this until I got out after the Army it start coming out because they didn't talk about it," said Stone.
