OUR TOWN EFFINGHAM -- Live music is the theme of the Effingham Performance Center. Some pretty big acts have played there over the years. Many keep coming back.
Employees say they're sticking to that theme, and a reputation for good hospitality has kept it alive during some rough times. What is now the Effingham Performance Center started as the Rosebud Theater in 2007. But, after only a few months, the Rosebud wilted. The economy crashed.
But, community leaders and investors refused to close for good. So, the city bought the building and leased it to a non-profit group. Now, it's thriving; booking big acts like Steve Martin.
The executive director says they're forgetting about the past and moving forward. Their customers help them do it. Comedians like Larry the Cable Guy have also performed there.
