Illinois Leaders Concerned About FutureGen Funding

Updated: January 30, 2007
Some state leaders fear a lack of federal funding could set back the FutureGen development. The billion dollar energy project could be built in Tuscola, Mattoon or two sites in Texas. Leaders say construction would cost about $54 million. Only about $16 million is included in the appropriations budget. Representative Tim Johnson and the rest of the Illinois delegation in Washington just sent a letter asking for that to be increased. They say FutureGen could be delayed, and construction could cost even more without the extra money.
