Fire Station to Rebuild
Updated: May 8, 2012
In fact, since the fire happened this weekend, volunteer crews have responded to nine calls. They say they couldn't have bounced back that quickly without a lot of help. Firefighters were scrubbing soot off the walls, but these men aren't just from Mt. Zion. Crews from surrounding stations joined the rebuilding process.
They've even donated two engines to get the station back up to full speed. Fire Chief Don Wright says generosity is only the half of what the community has shown. Four of its engines are completely destroyed, including one they believe had an electrical problem which started the fire. They just bought that truck six months ago.
Chief Wright says insurance companies will come and assess the damage over the next few days. It's currently estimated to be $3 million.
Wright estimates it will take about six months to completely rebuild. He says it's his life, and the top priority is being able to keep servicing the community with what they have.
