Former Teacher Sentenced to 6 Years

LOGAN COUNTY -- A former high school teacher is sentenced to six years in prison and two years mandatory supervised release after reaching a plea deal. Douglas Benz pleaded guilty to aggravated criminal sexual abuse which is a class 2 felony.    
    Benz taught English and was a football coach at Lincoln High School when he was accused of sexually abusing and assaulting a female student last year. Benz must also pay $5,700 in fines. Six other counts of class 1 and 2 felonies were dropped as part of Benz' plea deal.
