Sign-up for one of two reading clubs in the Childrens Department.
· Trail Trackers, a read-to-me program for children who have not yet learned to read.
· Explorers, a reading program for children through sixth grade.

An Initiative to Encourage First Grade Readers
These Web pages contain resources to help parents and teachers guide first grade readers. The site offerings include developmental characteristics, basic site words, resources for parents and teachers, and recommended books. The initiative is an outreach program of the Champaign Public Library.

ILLINOIS EARLY LEARNING PROJECT
Hosts a great website with wonderful one page tip sheets for parents and teachers.
Access the site at http://illinoisearlylearning.org, then click on tip sheets, and look under Language Arts for some great suggestions including, "Fun @ Home with Preschoolers: Getting Ready to Read!" and "Things to Do While Youre Waiting: Language and Literacy".
