Sign-up for one of two reading clubs in the Childrens Department. · Trail Trackers, a read-to-me program for children who have not yet learned to read. · Explorers, a reading program for children through sixth grade. Check out their website @ http://www.urbanafreelibrary.org EXPLORE THE READING TRAIL Champaign Public Library, this summer and earn a free book! There`s Harry Potter, Magic Tree House, Junie B. Jones, and more! But dont stop there! Enter our weekly drawings for incredible, spectacular prizes: T-shirts, gigantic balls, museum passes, huge jugs of bubble juice, live goldfish, basketballs, footballs, and more. Dont lose your chance to win our drawing for a super-huge stuffed "Odie" dog. We`ll have weekly contests and lots of fun summer reading events, too. Sign up begins June 1, program runs until July 31. READING FIRST AT YOUR LIBRARY An Initiative to Encourage First Grade Readers These Web pages contain resources to help parents and teachers guide first grade readers. The site offerings include developmental characteristics, basic site words, resources for parents and teachers, and recommended books. The initiative is an outreach program of the Champaign Public Library. Check out the site at www.champaign.org/kids/readingfirst.html ILLINOIS EARLY LEARNING PROJECT Hosts a great website with wonderful one page tip sheets for parents and teachers. Access the site at http://illinoisearlylearning.org, then click on tip sheets, and look under Language Arts for some great suggestions including, "Fun @ Home with Preschoolers: Getting Ready to Read!" and "Things to Do While Youre Waiting: Language and Literacy". BOOKHIVE Offers another great literacy site for kids created by a Public Library in Charlotte, NC it sports fun activities and recommendations from other young readers.
