Weather Almanac For 2/26

This Day In Weather History

1996 - It felt like the middle of spring rather than February on this date.  High temperatures across the region were in the lower and middle 70s.  Lincoln reached 75, which is the record for the month in that town.  Springfield set its record high for the day at 75, Decature did the same at 73.  Severe thunderstorms made the day feel even more like spring.  The storms brought hail and an 80 mph wind gust extensively damaged the Macon County Fairgrounds near Decatur.

1997 - A major rainstorm was the second within a week in central Illinois.  The heaviest rainfall was over 2 inches and found in east central Illinois, east of I-57.  Rainfall of 1.63" was reported in Springfield and 1.28" in Peoria.  Keep in mind this was on top of already saturated ground.  This further aggravated river flooding
