This Day In Weather History

1996 - This date was the peak of a cold wave which began on January 29th.  Low temperatures for most of Illinois were in the 15 to 25 degrees below zero range.  Elizabeth, a town in northwest Illinois dropped to 35 below zero, which tied the state's all time record low, but that has since been broken.  In central Illinois, lows included 20 below at Lincoln, 17 below at Springfield, 16 below at Decatur, and 14 below in Champaign.
