Weather Almanac For 1/19

This Day In Weather History

1994 - A bitter cold air mass entered central Illinois, dropping temperatures to record lows.  Newton was as low as 28 below zero, Champaign dropped to 25 below zero and 21 below at Peoria.  The 25 below reading at Champaign also tied the city's all-time record low, first set on February 13, 1905.

2000 - During the day and early evening hours a winter storm moved into central Illinois.  4 to 6 inches of snow fell across a large part of the area with some local 6 to 8 inches of snow, mainly along and north of a Galesburg to Bloomington to Danville line.  A cooperative observer in Minonk reported 7.5 inches of snow.  Blowing and drifting was also a problem.  There were many road closures as well as accidents, which had two injuries reported.
