Baby Moons

Updated: January 7, 2009
First comes love, then comes marraige, then comes the trip before the baby carraige. Information on "baby moons" shared by Jennifer Huls Wayland of L & L Travel on "The Morning Show." Taking one more big vacation before the baby arrives has become a new trend. These "last hurrahs" or "babymoons" as they are called can often be very extravagant. With more people waiting a little longer to have kids, and the number of wealthy two-income couples on the rise, they can afford to pay for a nice trip. Packages catering to these "babymooners" range from simple B&Bs to big hotels and spas and include things like a gift of pickles a cigar and cognac; chocolate covered cherries and sparkling cider; prenatal massages and teddy bears, hotel-logo onesies and CDs of lullabies. Many like to enjoy these trips before pregnancy, others before birth. Just remember - most Dr.s don`t recommend traveling during the last two months of pregnancy. As for activities during your vacation, pregnancy affects balance so stay away from the riding, skiing on water or snow. Try snorkeling and STAY HYDRATED! Make sure there is plenty of good, FREE drinking water available at your destination. Pregnancy massages and spa treatments are available at resorts including the Ritz-Carlton New York, Central Park; the Ritz-Carlton Key Biscayne near Miami; the Post Ranch Inn in Big Sur, Calif.; and the Nob Hill Spa in San Francisco, among a host of others. The Five Gables Inn & Spa in St. Michaels, Md., has the "Bundle of Joy" package, which runs from $510 to $975. It includes a two-night stay, a couples massage, a photo album, a "foot and hand relief" treatment, a lullaby CD and a coffee mug full of coffee beans. Movies like "She`s Having a Baby," "Bundle of Joy," "9 Months" and "Look Who`s Talking" are available for watching in the rooms. In April, Planters Inn in Charleston, S.C., began offering a package called "Baby`s on the Way" for $1,399, which includes a three-night stay, breakfast, his-and-her massages, a jar of pickles, a cigar, turndown service with chocolate truffles and cognac for the dads, local tours, a teddy bear and a gift basket. 10 SEP 04 mrm
