Urban Hiking

Updated: January 7, 2009
Hiking an Urban trail is a great way to spend quality time with your family and stay fit. It`s also a great way to exercise your pet you`re traveling with too. As shared by Jennifer Huls-Wayland of L & L Travel on "The Morning Show." If you are looking to "Get out of Town," check out Waterfall Glen Forest Preserve in Chicago. One breathtaking spot is a waterfall along Sawmill Creek. With 2,474 acres of plants, animals and trails you`re sure to spot something of interest. www.dupageforest.com The 7.5 mile Indianapolis section of the Monon trail travels through a variety of landscapes and neighborhoods. Its built on an abandoned railroad and links commercial districts, schools, parks and fairgrounds. In addition it connects to the 5.2 mile Carmel portion on the north side of Indy providing quiet, wooded areas. www.indygreenways.org To locate trails in an area contact the local Chamber of Commerce or check out: www.americantrails.org , www.localhikes.com or www.americanhiking.org . There is no shortage of trails for hikers, bikers, runners and skaters in most urban areas. The key is searching them out. 28 JUL 04 mrm
