This Day In Weather History

1982 - A major rain event took place in central Illinois.  6.12" of rain fell in Springfield in a 24 hour period on the 2nd and the 3rd.  This is the most rain to fall in the Capital city in this length of time.  Jacksonville took on 4.80" and Peoria had 2.89".  Lake Springfield rose two feet over the previous record stage, which caused flooding of nearby land.  There was also $100,000 in damage to the dam at the lake because of the flow of water.
